The 3 Stages Of Entrepreneurship – CEO

As I was doing rounds on facebook, I came across a facebook page of a friend who happened to be doing some noble work of mentoring the youths into entrepreneurship.

Ndindi Nyoro, the CEO & MD Afrisec talks about the stages of entrepreneurship and here they are.
Stage 1 - Those desperate hopeful but hungry years where no one knows you and don’t want to know you especially if you’re borrowing money or looking for some help. The days begin early and close late at night. Here, you worry about bills amidst a lot of pain, frustrations and hardships..
When you doubt whether your idea is really as good or would make any business or profit sense.. When almost all avenues are closed and you’re yet to close any deal.. If any, very few. When you almost want to quit and go hunting for a job – whatever the salary.. When you think, a simple, quiet and average life is where you belong..
The biggest proportion of entrepreneurs/Businesspeople quit at this stage not knowing how close they were to stage Two…
Stage Two - At this point, you start closing deals, I mean DEALS. Not flimsy deals. Money start dropping in.. Your foundation of hard work and perseverance in stage one start to bear fruits, and sweet ones for that matter. You start delegating some of the duties that tied your hands to your new employees..
 Ndindi Nyoro
Ndindi Nyoro – CEO & MD of Afrisec Telecoms
At this stage too, you move the office from your home to a real office. If you had an office, you move to a bigger one and in a more upmarket building.. The banks that turned you down several years ago can’t help but make overtures to become your new friends. Your bank manager is tempted to call you and he gives in; to give you a loan..
The fellows who scorned you and never wanted to associate with you start requesting you to attend their functions. People who forgot your name somehow remembers your three names and start calling you for appointments to share their new ideas on how to make money and others asking if you have opportunities for them in your thriving entity.
At this point, you’re able to fly to some hotel and drive an average car at least to “thank” yourself. This is a very interesting stage to many businesspeople..
Some allow themselves to be carried over by the new status and remain in that stage forever since they can take care of their lives pretty well. Others are mesmerized beyond repair and squander all their wealth and go back to stage one.
A good number who get to this stage progress to stage THREE which will be shared tomorrow.. But if 100 of you read this SECOND stage and prove it right here, I’ll share the third and last stage immediately.
Stage 3 - This is the eventual stage for those who wait. Those who are patient enough not to give up at stage one and stubborn enough not to get contented at stage Two. This is the stage where your money works for you. What you’ve attained materially or character wise in the former stages work for you too..
At this stage, the risk is big but the reward even enormous. Your investment of the undying entrepreneurial spirit exhibited in the earlier stages give loads of cash in return. You simply can’t count all your money.. You don’t even know exactly what you own. Not even the exact number of your employees..
People especially those who despised you line to get a chance to talk to you especially about money and Business. Your demand is definitely up there.
This final stage attracts all manner of expression of passion and emotion from your former PEERS – I mean the people you schooled together, brought up together. Those who know you as a normal common person. They can’t understand how a common fellow can be that successful… Envy and jealousy become the top emotions directed at you by the same category of people. You immediately become a figure of controversy to them… Your peers start questioning how and why you own too much.
On how you actually became rich. About the kind of business you do. Whether they’re legal or illegal. Whether clean or otherwise.. Often people see you as a villain, like you became rich at their expense.
They forget your former days.. When you struggled in the First stage.
The beauty about this stage is that you become an inspiration to the bigger proportion of the masses.. Those many people who aspire for greatness.. You start becoming a mentor even passively.. At this stage, you can own many things. You start riding in fast top class cars. You even decide to own a private jet or a small helicopters. Some decide to own an island just to feel nice. You buy your 3rd, 4th and 5th homes specifically designed for specific seasons. Many give a lot to the society at this stage.. And the more they give, the more it comes back.
At this stage, your work is that of attending board meetings of the many companies you own.. Attending National and international Business Forums. Buying more companies.. Expanding what you’ve already built.
At this stage, you don’t even remember there are bills. Most of them are paid for by your companies as “Directors’ expense”…
At this stage, your actually buy out the bank that turned you down in stage one. You also buy the building that hosts your offices.
Almost all entrepreneurs who reach this stage NEVER slide back in their lifetime, some never at all… What they’ve built remains intact even for generations. The foundation is strong enough to cross generations.
Here marks the final stage of entrepreneurship.
Post below your current stage and your preferred stage in the next 5 years??

Tips for Writing a Federal Resume

Creating a federal resume that brings your qualifications to life and shows that you are a perfect fit for the job can be a challenge. The federal resume can either open doors or eliminate you from the running. Be sure to demonstrate how your skills, experience, training and education match the employer's needs. Avoid misspelled words and bad grammar. Few of us like to write and even fewer enjoy writing about themselves, but it is something you have to do if you want to succeed. Following are a few ways to make this easier.
Prepare
Attend job assistance training prior to departing the service. Contact your Transition Assistance Center as soon as possible and sign up for a TAP Workshop. If you are not near a Military Transition Center, you may use the services at Transition Assistance Offices operated by the other military services. Use your transition counselors. They have the tools and knowledge you need. If available, get their help in creating your first resume or filling out a draft application. Ask them to critique your work and then make the changes they suggest.
Focus
Set an objective and identify the kind of jobs you are interested in. How you present your skills and experience in your resume will help determine whether or not you are invited to interview for a job.
Tailor
One size never fits all. Do not assume that you can use one resume for many jobs. If you do, you will not succeed. As you apply for jobs, tailor your resume to the employer's requirements. It is important to portray yourself as a "doer" whose skills match the requirements of the position and demonstrate the ability to do the job. This is easy to do when you include results, achievements and accomplishments.
Translate
Minimize the use of military terminology, abbreviations, acronyms or jargon in your resume.
Format
Resumes are generally presented in one of three formats: chronological, functional or a combination of chronological and functional. While your counselor can help you to select the format that will best display your abilities, which you choose will depend, in part, on the type of work you have performed and whether or not you are going to continue to do the same work.
  • Chronological resumes list work experience according to date, with the current job appearing first. Chronological resumes work well if your career has been progressive and you plan to continue in the same line of work.
  • Functional resumes are organized by the skills you have used on the job. Functional resumes work well if you are contemplating a new career, do not have a lengthy work history, or have held a number of different positions because they sell your abilities based on the skills you have acquired during your career.
  • Combination resumes both describe your work experience and highlight your skills. Combination resumes usually provide the most comprehensive overview of your career.
Content
The federal resume must include information that is not needed in the private sector. Your federal resume should include the following:
  • Job announcement numberjob title, and job grade of the job for which you are applying
  • Your full namemailing address, day and evening phone numbers and home e-mail.
  • Last four digits of your Social Security number
  • Country of citizenship
  • Veterans Preference - List your Veterans Preference points. Ensure that you attach or upload supporting documentation (e.g., DD214 or Statement of Service if still on Active Duty; SF-15, Application for 10-point preference; and Disability Rating Letter of 30% or more from the VA, if applicable).
  • Education - Include: college name, city, state, zip code, majors, type and year of degrees held or number of semester hours completed, and high school name, city, state, zip code, and date of your diploma or GED, if requested. Keep in mind that your military training may qualify you. Your Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET) document (DD Form 2586), is the best place to start your training and education inventory.
  • Work experience (paid and unpaid) - Include: job title; duties and accomplishments; employer's name and address, including zip code; supervisor's name and phone number, starting and ending dates (month and year); hours per week; and salary. List each experience as a separate entry on the resume. Forget about military job titles or occupational codes. Instead, look at what you did. Your VMET document is a great place to start. Employers prefer proven performers, so make sure you know what employers are looking for in comparison to your military work experience.
  • Indicate if your current supervisor can be contacted.
  • Job-related training courses (title and year).
  • Job-related knowledge or skills - Showing how your skills fit the company's requirements starts with an extensive inventory. Skills fall into three categories:
    1. self-management skills refer to the way you manage yourself on the job (e.g., dependable, resourceful, etc.);
    2. functional skills are the skills you use on the job or have used in previous jobs (e.g., operate equipment, supervise, analyze, etc.); and
    3. technical skills relate to specific skills required to perform a described task (e.g., computer programming, accounting, sales, etc.)
  • Current job-related certificates and licenses - Make sure you understand the licensure and certification requirements for your job objective.
  • Job-related honorsawardsspecial accomplishments, leadership activities, memberships, or publications.
Appearance
Once you have spell checked your resume, take a good look at its overall appearance. Is it appealing and easy to read? Is there enough white space? Are the margins appropriate? Have the headings, font and formatting style been used effectively? Keep in mind that your resume is an employer's first impression of you. Make sure it makes the best one possible.
Remember
  • Review the job announcements carefully for key words.
  • Use verbs and adjectives (e.g., managed, implemented, created) that match key words identified in the job announcement.
  • Eliminate military lingo (use words such as personnel instead of squad or platoon).
  • Include your accomplishments; do not be shy, be truthful.
  • Focus on the mission of the agency and translate your experiences.
  • Your positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm goes a long way.

Top Resume Writing Tips

You will need a lot of information for your resume to be complete. Be prepared to list your education, previous work experience, and any honors and awards you’ve received. The information you include on your resume should be related to the job you are applying for. Be sure to include your current personal contact information as well. Give your address, phone number, and email address so the employer will have different ways to contact you.
Whether you are creating a resume from scratch, using a template, or plugging your information into a resume builder, you need to double check all the information! A spelling error or typo on your resume could be the difference between landing your dream job or ending up back in the unemployment line. If you can, have someone else look over your resume too. It never hurts to have another set of eyes looking for errors.
Your resume is the most important document when it comes to applying for jobs. Making yourself stand out with a professional resume can help you land an excellent position with a prestigious company. Whether you are a resume novice or expect, use the above resources to help you get started in the application process.

How to Create a Great Resume

A great resume is what will set you apart from the other candidates and ensure you have the best chance at getting offered a position with the company of your dreams. Luckily, creating a resume doesn’t have to be difficult. There are plenty of ways to create a unique and professional resume online so you’ll be prepared for your next employment application and interview.
If you don’t have any experience with creating a resume, there are many online resources that can get you started. To start, look for some professional resume examples. A good sample resume should give you an idea of the information you’ll need to include in your own resume. You can also use these samples to see what kinds of fonts and layouts are appropriate for a great resume.
Many websites also have resume templates you can use to create your own personal resume. Templates can often be downloaded and then used in a word processor. You’ll need to fill in each pre-determined section with your own information. Using a resume template is a great way to get an organized look for your resume, even if you aren’t very familiar with using word processor programs and professional documents.
If you really need help completing your resume, look for an online resume builder. This is the easiest option, and it will ensure you end up with a professional result. A resume builder will have you simply provide your information into a webpage. It might ask you what type of resume you are looking for, whether it’s professional, academic, or casual. After entering your information and picking the right options, your personalized resume will be ready. You can preview it and make sure it looks correct. Then, you’ll be able to save the resume to your hard drive to print it out.

3 Signs You Are On Wrong Track …Take Charge Of Your Life

If you have been keeping up with the Kenyan news lately, it has gotten depressing.

Let’s be frank here, when was the last time you watched Jane Ngoiri or Lulu Hassan or wherever you like to catch up with the happenings of the day and there wasn’t some news of how scores if Kenyans had lost their lives.
Road accidents, natural causes, name them. Left, right and center, they remind us that life is short. It’s times like this and think of the time we waste immersing ourselves in needless distractions that steal our attention away from the things that actually matter.
If you feel like you’re on the wrong track with what matters most to you, here are three warning written by Marc Chernoff and I thought of sharing them with you.
1.All the decisions you’ve made were made by someone else for you
There are people who live their entire lives on the default settings, never realizing they can customize everything.  Don’t be one of them.
You have to live your own life your own way.  That’s all there is to it.  Each of us has a unique fire in our heart for something that makes us feel alive.  It’s your duty to find it and keep it lit.  You’ve got to stop caring so much about what everyone else wants for you, and start actually living for yourself.
Find your love, your talents, your passions and embrace them.  Don’t hide behind other people’s decisions.  Don’t let others tell you what you want.  Design and experience YOUR life!  The life you create from doing something that moves you is far better than the life you get from sitting around wishing you were doing it.
2. You have chosen the easiest possible path
Nothing in life is easy. Don’t expect things to be given to you.  Go out and achieve them.  Good things come to those who work for them.  Some have natural talent, while others make up for it with tremendous heart and determination, and it’s almost always the latter group that succeeds in the long run.
There is too much emphasis on finding a ‘quick fix’ in today’s society.  For example taking diet pills to lose weight instead of exercising and eating well.  No amount of magic fairy dust replaces diligent, focused, hard work.
Working and training for something is the opposite of hoping for it.  If you believe in it with all your heart, then work for it with all your might.  Great achievements must be earned.
There is no elevator to success; you must take the stairs.  So forget how you feel and remember what you deserve.  NOW is always the best time to break out of your shell and show the world who you really are and what you’re really made of.
Start right where you are, use what you have, do what you can, and give it your best shot.
3. You are working hard, but making zero progress.
To achieve success and sustain happiness in life, you must focus your attention on the right things, in the right ways.  Every growing human being (that means all of us) has resource constraints: limited time and energy.  It is critical that you spend your resources effectively.  You have to stay laser-focused on doing the RIGHT work, instead of doing a bunch of inconsequential work, right.
Not all work is created equal.  Don’t get caught up in odd jobs, even those that seem urgent, unless they are also important.  Don’t confuse being busy with being productive.

10 Tips of How To Live Within Your Means

By Tabitha Mwai,

A good number of people live a life they can hardly afford so as to impress those around them. To be comfortable, live below your means as suggested below:
1. Redefine your definition of rich – Change it from having luxuries to meeting your basic needs and a few wants.
2. Borrow and Share – Instead of renting a movie borrow from a friend and watch it at home.
3. Avoid the mall – If you go to the mall you are more likely to impulse buy. You can buy clothes in shops and heck out for where you can get discounts.
4. Buy with cards – Avoid using electronic money.
5. Find a better deal and save the difference – Switch too cheaper service providers and you will save a lot of cash.
6. Curb your consumerism – Buy only what you need.
7. Stay Healthy – People spend a lot of money in hospitals which can be avoided of one eat well and did a bit of exercise.
8. Prepare for a rainy day – Even when things are going well do not be too comfortable. Always be prepared for the worst so that when it happens you will be able to handle it.
9. Stop competing – Being rich does not amount to happiness since we compare ourselves with others. Quit the competition and live a life you can manage.
10. Don’t let greed and deceit get the best of you – Most people want to get wealthy using shortcuts without caring who they step on. This is the reason why most countries struggle with corruption and even inflation. Aspire to be wealthy but use the right means.

7 Sources of Stress You Need To Get Rid Off In Life

Life is getting busier as we grow older. Adulthood comes with a number of added responsibilities and duties; whether you are in school, have just graduated, working or even retired you will sometimes fell the pressure of life; personal or work related.

These days, it is hard to find someone who is not living under pressure or stress from one thing or the other. Most people are under various types of stress and increasingly, more people are not handling stress properly, which leads to health related issues and depression.
Therefore, it is necessary to keep a healthy and stress-free atmosphere around the house to avoid any tensions and frustrations. Here are some thing that you need to get rid off so that you are not under stress.
1.  People who are purposely difficult.
Stay away from negative company and those who make your life difficult. Happiness is found around encouraging, loving people. Learning to ignore certain people is one of the great paths to inner peace.
2.  Your attempts to live up to the expectations of others.
You can’t base your idea of success and happiness on other people’s opinions. Follow your own intuition and do your best, success will follow.
Young woman with hand on her mouth.3.  Your own needless negativity.
Stop focusing on how stressed you are and remember how blessed you are.  Complaining won’t change the outcome, but a positive attitude will. Practice acceptance and forgiveness. True wealth is the ability to experience and appreciate each moment for what it’s worth.
4.  The itch of old wounds from the past.
Letting go of the past is your first step towards happiness. You are not your past failures, your past habits or how others have treated you.  You are only who you think you are right now in this moment.
5.  The excuses you keep making for procrastinating.
Stop talking about what you have done or what you are going to do.  Just do it and let your actions speak for themselves. It is better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret
6.  A “safe” lifestyle void of excitement and passion.
You deserve to be happiness and excitement in your life. Never let others make you forget that and stop playing safe. Go out there and face life challenges so as to reach your potential.
7.  Self-neglect.
The worst thing in life is not being able to understand yourself. Stop living for others and start to live for yourself and your own values, ideas, and dreams.  Believe in yourself.
“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.” E.E. Cummings

5 Tips for Handling That Annoying Know-It-All Co-Worker

There is always that person who everyone hates working with because of their domineering character. If you find yourself with a person who is the sole generator of ideas and insists of everyone following them you should know that is a know-it- all.

The worst mistake would be to argue with such people instead follow the tips below and all will be well.
1.    Under no circumstance should you bother arguing: You can never win an argument against such a person, Mr. Know-it-all is a skilled pocket lawyer and nothing can sway his position. The best thing to do would be to talk to him gently and try a little gentle coercion via humor.
2.    Try being a friend: Approach him in a friendly manner, show him some appreciation and acknowledge his opinion then gently slide in your opinion as a suggestion. This is the only way he will reason with you.
3.    Talk to him about their behavior: When you get an opportunity to talk to him in a different set up that is appropriate, try and address his behavior gently explaining how it affects productivity.
Know it all
Try to approach the know it all in a friendly manner
4.    Know when to fight and when not to: Be wise in choosing your battles. If you keep fighting with Mr. Know-it-all he will begin to perceive you as an enemy and this will affect your working relationship.
5.    Get your facts handy ahead of any confrontation:Whenever you need to confront Mr. Know-it-all do your homework. Do not talk to him if you do not have your facts right as he may intimidate you with his voice and words.
6.    Ask him strategic questions: Do not just raise you voice as you confront him try to maintain your cool so as to drive you point home. As him strategic questions relating to his methods and the results they produce. Be specific and downright logical.
I bet now you can handle a Mr. Know-it-all.
