IPOA Job Vacancies in Kenya - Investigation Officers



  • (3 positions)
    Purpose: Reporting to the Deputy Director (Investigations), the investigator will be responsible for conducting investigations on complaints received and falling within the Authority’s mandate outlined in Section 6 of the IPOA Act.
    The nature of the job requires one to work at odd hours, be on call at all times and be able to work in any part of Kenya.
    Duties and responsibilities:
  • Undertake investigations on allegations of misconduct, deaths and serious injurious to persons while in police custody, or which are the result of police action or were caused by members of the National Police Service;
  • Provide periodic investigation updates;
  • Gather information and produce intelligence reports to inform investigations;
  • Document all investigations in concise, factual and timely manner;
  • Compile investigation files;
  • Support prosecution process in court; and,
  • Identify and document gaps in processes and systems, and recommend corrective action.
    Job requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in criminal investigations;
  • Thorough understanding of the Laws of Evidence including preserving, processing and documenting evidence;
  • Demonstrated expertise in interview and interrogation techniques;
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills;
  • Strong command of Kiswahili and English;
  • Must be good in investigation report writing;
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimum supervision;
  • Must be computer literate with strong end user skills and proficiency in MS Office;
  • Must have a valid driving license;
  • Must be a person of high integrity
    Added Advantage: Knowledge of international, regional and national human rights laws
    Terms and conditions: The successful candidates will be employed on a 4-year contract, (renewable, based on performance) and they will be offered competitive terms.
