Title:Chief Legal Officer
Reporting to :The Chief Executive Officer
Duties and Responsibilities
The Legal Officer shall represent the company in litigation, administrative proceedings and alternative disputes resolution proceedings;
Provide legal, tactical and strategic advice to company management and its departments
Assume a leadership role in developing appropriate legal, risk management and compliance policies, and practices.
The legal officer shall help in the preparation of legal briefs to the company’s external lawyers for all Court Cases, and liaise with them in relation to pending legal matters.
Maintains custody of legal documents to ensure copyright handling.
Provide a legal advice on the potential liability, in order to take necessary steps to control the company exposure.
Assists HR on revising employment contracts to facilitate the recruitment or termination of employees and to insure its conformity to Kenyan Labour Laws.
Formulate, provide, advise and / or review all contracts agreements between the company and third parties to ensure that the company’s interest is protected and the best commercial position maintained. To ensure the company’s interests are fully protected and redress of grievance obtained.
Direct, control, prepare, respond and lead the legal action and legal proceedings to help and improve the collection of the receivables and defend the company’s interests.
Provide professional, written and oral, legal advice to the executives and officers to reasonably complex legal and legal policy issues.
Provide training on legal issues to the Legal Department officers to make sure that they are fully qualified to represent company and to act accordingly.
Act as secretary to all management meetings.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized University;
Be in possession of the Current Law Practicing Certificate;
Two (2) years’ experience in a busy corporate organization;
Excellent interpersonal skills and a participatory management style;
Excellent capability for critical judgment, management and problem solving skills;
Excellent writing and computer skills.
