6 Important Steps to Job Searching That You Shouldn’t Miss Out

Are you unemployed and looking for a new job? If so, has it been months or years since you last went on a hunt for open positions? If so, you might want to keep reading on. Below you will find a few important steps to doing a job search that you don’t want to skip.
1. Know What You Want
One mistake that job seekers make before they start applying for a wide range of positions involves not coming up with a plan. Your searching will go a lot faster and smoother if you do have a plan in place. Start with something as simple as knowing what type of job you want. What companies would you like to work for? What type of industry would you like to work in? Would you like to work full-time or part-time?
2. Know What You Are Qualified For
While it is important to know what you want, it is also important to know what you can get. Companies get hundreds and sometimes even thousands of job applications for one job position. They are not going to hire someone who is unqualified for the job. So make a list of your education, training, and on the job experience. Have this handy when reviewing a job listing’s requirements. If you meet or are close to meeting the requirements, go ahead and apply for the job as you stand a good chance of at least landing a job interview.
3.  Know Where to Look
As previously stated, there are benefits to having a plan in place, as it serves as a guide for you to follow. Do not start visiting random online job search sites, only some of which you will remember to visit again tomorrow. Start doing your research now. Familiarize yourself with some of the best career search websites and bookmark or favorite them for easy access later. Also, take the time to familiarize yourself with desktop career search tools that enable you to search thousands of websites at once, and so forth.
4. Review Your CV.
A key competent of finding a position in today’s market is to have a spot-on resume. You know that you are a good candidate for the job, but your resume must show the hiring manager that you are. If your resume hasn’t been updated in years, it is time for an overall. Don’t just update your resume with your last position, but also breathe some new life into it by rewording some of your job duties, skills, and accomplishments with targeted and impressive keywords. Consider getting a second set of eyes to review your resume and provide unbiased feedback.
5. Get Organized
Now that your resume is ready to go, it is time to get organized. Speaking of your resume, start with that. While you are likely going to apply for most of your jobs online, have a few printed copies of your resume ready to go. You never know when you will come across an open job, possibly while out shopping with the family or taking your child to the dentist. Moreover, some companies still request that all resumes be mailed.
Then, devote a notebook or a calendar to your quest to find and apply for jobs. Write down each position you applied for, so that you don’t accidentally send out your resume twice. Write down the dates and times of each interview scheduled, so you do not miss one or arrive late.
6. Start Applying for Jobs
At this point in time, you are ready to start applying for jobs. As a reminder, be sure to target open positions that you are qualified for. This increases your chances of not only landing an interview, but actually landing the job. Moreover, be sure to search often. Most experts recommend at least searching twice a day.
