The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) is an Intergovernmental organization which provides services in surveying, mapping, remote sensing GIS and ICT to its Member States, partners and clients.
It currently has nineteen Member States in the Eastern and Southern Africa region.
Our mission is to promote sustainable development through the generation, application and dissemination of geo-information and allied ICT services and products in the Member States and beyond.
RCMRD is implementing SERVIR Africa project in collaboration with NASA with funding from USAID.
We wish to fill the following vacant position in SERVIR Africa project. Communication &Outreach Expert
Responsibilities
Developing and managing a strategy for the production and dissemination of a wide array of information and communications through various means,
Regularly updating the contents of SERVIR-Africa and RCMRD web pages,
Writing news articles based on current events, earth observation research, and RCMRD/SERVIR Africa activities,
Establishing links with environmental journalists, and media and maintain with the media for outreach purposes,
Preparing press releases and briefs for local and international media coverage,
Preparing the Newsletter of RCMRD in collaboration with the Director General’s office

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, IT or Environmental with a diverse experience in all facets of communications.
A minimum of three years of experience in the area of communication.
Possession of strong writing and editing skills and organizational abilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of good of environmental, economic, and social issues.
Strong computer and Web skills are necessary. Fluency or working knowledge of French is an advantage.
Knowledge of GIS and Earth Observation and operations will be an added advantage.
