Senior Internal Auditor
REF: KT/CASB/2013/18 (1 Post)
Salary Scale 7: Ksh.48,190×2,400-50,590×2,550-53,140×2,700-55,840×3,00058,840×3,150- 61,990×3,300-65,290 PM.
(a) Duties and responsibilities
An officer at this level will be responsible to the Clerk for:
i. Efficient co-ordination and control of operations in the Audit Department.
ii. Tallying of expenditure with budget allocations;
iii. Ensuing compliance with organizational procedures and regulations; and physical tallying of assets with records
iv. Assessment of effectiveness of existing safeguards (standards); review of such safeguards; and preparation of reports on such assessments and reviews
v. Identifying activities subject to audit coverage, evaluating their significance and assessing the degree of risk inherent in terms of the audit and costs involved;
vi. Determining adequacy and effectiveness of internal control systems;
vii. Carrying out investigations on irregularities identified or reported in audit reports;
viii. Ensuring Board assets are safeguarded and properly utilized and ensuring that operations of Internal Audit functions are within the recognized international audit standards.
(a) Requirements for appointment
i. A Bachelor’s Degree from recognized universities, majoring in fields relevant to the Audit Function i.e. Commerce, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance and Computer Science or its equivalent
ii. Hold Certified Public Accountants of Kenya Parts II (CPA11) certificate or its equivalent.
iii. Has undertaken a senior management course from a recognized institution
iv. Membership to a relevant professional body/association and or relevant post graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
In addition, the officer must:
v. Have demonstrated administrative capabilities and a high degree of competence in planning , conducting and supervision both financial and management audits as well as running a unit efficiently; and
vi. Have at least Five (5) years experience in Audit matters.
vii. Be a person of high integrity and has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities.

Head of Audit
The incumbent will liaise with the Heads of Departments in the Group in the establishment of appropriate business operating systems and procedures and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate the installation and maintenance of § appropriate operating procedures for continuous improvement in all operations in order to guard against waste, fraud and avoidable loss.
Liaise with the Group’s Chief Executive and the Heads of Departments in the formulation of internal audit policies required in all the departments for effective running of the business
Work with the Heads of Departments in the establishment, installation and maintenance of operational system, procedures and standards of performance in the day to day running of the business according to the approved internal control policies
Advisethe Heads of Departments on relevant cost control and cost containment measures in their respective areas
Highlight opportunities for reducing waste and duplication and unnecessary activities through greater economy and efficiency within the agreed systems, procedures and standards
Formulate and present proposals to the Group’s Finance Director on annual risk analysis and assist the Finance team in the implementation of the approved corporate governance reporting processes
Carry out quality assurance audits on the adequacy of record keeping in all the departments and make recommendations on required improvements and/or changes
Follow up the implementation of agreed actions, bring deficiencies to the notice of the respective Head of department and the Chief Executive Officer and to assist the department in the design and implementation of the required procedure/changes/improvements.
Qualifications  Experience
University degree such as B.Com (Accounting) or Business Administration
7- 10 years’ experience in audit in which 2 should be as Senior Auditor
Full professional accounting qualification: CPA (K), ACCA, ACA

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, Baltimore and the Country Director, the Internal Auditor will be responsible for providing independent and objective assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of key internal controls in Jhpiego Kenya offices.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of operations, compliance with policies, procedures, statutory laws and the industry best practices; and provide recommendations and advice on improvements to Jhpiego’s systems and procedures
• Routinely review company accounts and financial control systems to evaluate and advise on the reliability and integrity of financial information and the efficient and effective use of resources
• Review the current policies, procedures and systems to ensure effective internal controls, and participate in development of new internal control initiatives

Qualifications:
• A Bachelors of Commerce degree in Accounting or Finance. Masters degree preferred
• Certified Accountant and Auditor with CPA (K) and CIA (K) or equivalent. CISA qualification an asset
• A minimum of 5 years experience as auditor in an audit firm and experience in auditing NGOs
• Good understanding of internal audit including international trends and best practices, key areas of donor compliance.
• Excellent analytical and report writing skills
• Experience in auditing USAID or other donor-funded projects an asset
• Highly motivated, energetic, independent self starter with strong communication skills
• Ability to train and mentor other internal audit staff
• Demonstrate proficiency in IT particularly computer assisted audit techniques.
