Scholarships are tenable from six to twelve weeks.
A host law firm assists the scholar to find accommodation and provides expenses. There are up to 12 scholarships annually to the following countries: Australia, Bermuda, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, USA and countries of the EU. The Trust also welcomes the opportunity to support scholars in placements they have personally arranged.
Scholars from overseas normally read for a post graduate degree at a major university (at present, the Cambridge LLM degree), and then London for three months to work in first class barristers' chambers.
The scholars receive a stipend to help them cover accommodation and living expenses.
In addition to spending time with barristers, the Trust arranges for the scholars to visit various institutions including the House of Lords, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh, the High Court in Belfast, the Commercial Judges and the Queens Bench Masters at the Royal Courts of Justice, the Old Bailey and a Magistrates Court.
Since the start of the scheme the Trust has received over a hundred scholars from the following countries: Australia, Cameroon, Canada, Cyprus, Dominica, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, U.S.A., West Indies, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Deadline: 30 November each year.
