The unemployment rate in Kenya is very high with 70% of the youths being jobless today. The job market absorbs only 10% of 500, 000 graduates released from institutions of higher learning every year.
I was recently discussing with friends about unemployment menace and how youths can make it in businesses. One lady argued that parents are wasting their money educating people in campus only to find there are no jobs and if there are then it is peanuts which you have to strike, carry placards for you to get a pay rise. “Why should you study hard to become a Doctor or teacher, who after 7yrs and 4yrs of study has nothing to show for it but run up and down in the town in the name of strikes?”
It is true that most learned graduates are busy looking for jobs while the illiterates are busy making money and employing the graduates. However, we can’t blame them since the education system teaches us to be job seekers rather than job creators. School and universities never teach financial education. The end product is very sharp minds in respective fields but graduates who don’t understand the basics of dealing with money, creating wealth and maintaining it.
I have learned that the difference between high achievers and low achievers is in their attitude. Yes, attitude is everything. It is all about your mindset. If you believe you can do it then you will, but if you believe you can’t make it, then you will definitely fail.
Here are a few tips for youths to be successful.1. Do not depend on your parents’ wealth. Someone may come tomorrow to dupe you and you will lose everything. Learn to do things on yourown.
2. God has given everyone a talent. Pray about yours, discover it, and work on it. Then it will work out for you.
3. Do not just sit down and ping, tweet, facebook while others are making money with their talents. Be wise for once, the owners of these social networks are using us to make money
4. It is good to appreciate good things, but learn to appreciate it wisely and stop arguing unnecessarily about football and players. When will people argue about you also? Think about!
5. Don’t feel like a Don for sleeping with too many ladies, they won’t make your destiny fulfilled as some are filled with bad luck.
6. Learn to get a lady close to you to be successful as they say: without a woman, a man cannot be successful.
7. Learn to solve problem on your own, it is a good way of making it in life. Don’t copy others, tap little from them and modify it.
8. Stop drinking and smoking too much as it may damage your life too much. Do it socially.
9. Learn to have a good heart, help people around you if you have the power as they’ll use their heart to bless you.
10. Think about impossible things, try to make it possible. Bigger people started from somewhere
