The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, (AKUH,N) a premier tertiary teaching hospital, is fast growing with a network of over 30 multi-site medical centres in East Africa and a state-of-the-art Heart and Cancer Centre in Nairobi.
Chief Pharmacist
The Chief Pharmacist is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures associated with the use and management of drugs in the hospital while being compliant with the legal requirements and Pharmacy and Poisons Board guidelines.
This position is both strategic and operational in leading a team of Pharmacists of various levels to achieve the mission and vision of AKUN, H in its quest to be a tertiary level health care facility in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Responsibilities will include establishing an efficient drug formulation unit, advizing/analyzing of budgets, detailing drug cost and activity information to understand the cost benefit and profitability of the pharmacy services, while paying close attention on the quality management systems to ensure dispensing of appropriate, timely and high quality drugs to the patients. Other functions include development of adequate systems for procurement, stock control and drug information.
Applicants must have Masters’ Degree in Pharmacy and/or Postgraduate clinical qualifications in Pharmacy (PGdipClin or Mclin in Pharmacy).
S/he should have a practicing license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
S/he should be registered with Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya and have a minimum of 10 years’ hospital experience in pharmaceutical services.
S/he should have excellent communication, delegation, coordination, problem solving and decision making skills.
