Project Manager Jobs in Kenya

The position requires a responsible individual in areas of project planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to strict deadlines and within project budget. 
This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. 
The Project Manager will be required to define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle. 
He/She will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with organization strategy, commitments and goals.
Major responsibilities: 
  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end. 
  • Provide effective leadership and establish operational priorities and monitor performance targets for the respective ongoing projects. 
  • Direct the successful implementation of ongoing projects and supervise project activities and collaboration with target community groups and stakeholders in Nyamira County. 
  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support organization goals in collaboration with Executive Director and stakeholders. 
  • Impart appropriate mentoring; coaching and supervision in order to equip, motivate and empower the project staff. 
  • Ensure that accurate and timely financial and narrative reports are prepared and issued to the Executive Director and relevant donors. 
  • Liaise with project stakeholders and donors on an ongoing basis. 
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. 
  • Draft and submit budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes to donors where necessary. 
  • Ensure that project money (income, expenditure) is managed in a timely and appropriate manner. 
  • Co-develop and closely monitor and report on project work plan and project budget expenditure to the donors 
  • Ensure that the project achieves acceptable financial and operational audit results by implementing interventions in accordance with established norm and policies. 
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders. 
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools. 
  • Track project milestones and deliverables. 
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations. 
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans. 
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle. 
  • Conduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements. 
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management. 
  • Make all efforts to engage key stakeholders in important external evaluations to ensure an understanding of locally perceived impacts and problems. 
  • See that all ad hoc evaluation studies needed to gain timely and relevant insights into emerging areas of concern are undertaken. Make sure the data are shared with all those involved in decision making and follow up on the implementation of any decisions. 
  • Representation with beneficiary youth groups and other stakeholders, donor, government of Kenya officials, private sector, civil society groups, including faith-based groups and youth associations. 
  • Support external missions in ways that foster a joint learning process that identifies how the project could be improved further to achieve impact.
Minimum requirements:
Education 
First Degree in a relevant field from a recognized university. 
Master’s university degree in a relevant field from a recognized university is an added advantage.
Technical Skills and Prior Experience 
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience with regards to the designing, planning, and implementation, supervising and reporting on integrated development projects. 
  • Should have at least 5 years in a management level position. 
  • Experience in livelihoods development programming. 
  • Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel and Word. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills required.
