Relationship Manager – Correspondent Banking
Purpose of the role
Reporting to the Treasurer, the role holder will develop and implement the unit’s strategies aimed enhancing the bank’s local and international profile among financial institutions and promotion of business activities with the institutions through relationship management and negotiation of lines of credit.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and promote cordial relationships with Foreign Correspondent Banks, Local Commercial banks, Non-bank Financial Institutions and Foreign Services providers e.g. Bankers Almanac.
Responsibility for growing/optimizing business levels transacted with Correspondent Banks and advising the Bank on any events occurring within correspondent network, which might impact the Bank’s business and service delivery.
Negotiating lines of Credit with Foreign Financial Institutions, World Bank branches such as IFC and other Foreign Investments Houses
Developing, promoting and supporting growth of the bank business in the International circles through Correspondence relationship.
Establish and manage local and foreign correspondent banking relationships to facilitate the domestic and international trading needs of the bank and its clients. This should include VOSTRO accounts for foreign banks seeking to deal in the KES currency. Establish new correspondent bank relationships as and when need arises.
Review the pricing of services  products offered by Correspondent Banks by negotiating for favorable pricing and seek further avenues of revenue creation from correspondent banks.
Negotiate  review appropriate tariff structure applied by branches for FCY/KES current account services and Head Office business units for correspondent banks.
Monitor all costs charged by correspondent banks to ensure all charges levied are valid and initiate refunds for all invalid costs. Document the cost saving done and made from this process.
Establishment of adequate credit limits (internal and external) on best terms for correspondent banks to facilitate trading, investments, Trade Finance and related business.
Support the bank’s subsidiaries and branches in their Correspondent Banking needs.
Participating in business/credit risk partnership i.e. interface between the Trade Finance, Corporate, Treasury and Credit Teams on one hand and Correspondent Banks on the other.
Sourcing training opportunities from correspondent banks for members of staff
In liaison with the Credit Management Division, develop and constantly review availability of sufficient offshore credit lines for confirmation of LC’s, SBLC and guarantees
Control and monitor the flow of LC’s, and foreign business to ensure business is fairly distributed to our correspondent banks
In liaison with the Compliance Dept Conduct KYC on all existing and potential correspondent Banks including review of AML Questionnaires and provide recommendations on courses of action
Ensure any agreements with banks are followed to conclusion in liaison with legal department
Ensure any correspondence from the correspondence banks is received by the relevant SBU
Linking the bank to Financial Institutions in other markets
Provision of timely MIS reports
Any other role assigned by the Treasurer or other designated manager
Minimum Requirements;
A Bachelors degree in a business related field from a recognized university.
Good knowledge of Treasury, Trade Finance and International Banking operations
5 years working experience in Treasury, Trade Finance and International Banking operations
Good interpersonal and networking skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good negotiation skills  Analytical skills
Intelligent and highly analytical
Results oriented
Ability to network
35 years and below
